We recognize obesity as a chronic disease. It is not simply balancing the calories which we consume and the calories that we burn. While diet and exercise are necessary for a healthy lifestyle,  the latest scientific evidence shows our weight is actually mediated by a complex system of hormones. Our bodies have a "set point" for weight, or a weight which our bodies are happy to be at. This is regulated by hormones, and often makes it difficult to lose weight and keep it off when frequently our hormones seem to be working against us.

Our program consists of monthly memberships or 3-month membership package. Discounts will be applied when signing up for 3 month membership which is recommended to see the best results.  Some may chose to continue with our membership weight loss program for longer. 

Your membership will include a comprehensive initial assessment in the office.  Regular follow up visits as often as weekly if needed, health coaching, and medication. We have a lifestyle app for your phone/computer in which we can communicate through and a personalized meal and exercise plan will be assigned. 

A review of labs will be required prior to starting any medication, this will not be covered in the membership price. Most will use their insurance for this. 

WHAT IS SEMAGLUTIDE?

Semaglutide is a revolutionary GLP-1 receptor agonist that was originally developed for patients with Type 2 Diabetes, however has also been shown to result in significant weight loss. In June 2022, FDA approved semaglutide (brand name Wegovy) for weight loss in people without diabetes. A series of clinical trials known as the STEP clinical trials demonstrated that almost 90% of patients lost 5% or more of their body weight.  Many people can easily lose 10% or more of their body weight with this medication. 

HOW DOES SEMAGLUTIDE WORK?

Semaglutide acts like a GLP-1 (gut hormone) to:

• · Increase insulin production
• · Decrease glucagon synthesis
• · Delay gastric emptying
• · Suppress hunger. Signals are sent to the brain that you feel full without depriving yourself. 

What are potential side effects?

• · Common GI side effects- nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain. 
• · Site reactions
• · Fatigue
• · Headaches

WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR SEMAGLUTIDE?

• · < 18 years old
• · Pregnant/ breastfeeding
• · Type 1 Diabetes
• · Hypersensitivity to semaglutide or any components of this medication
• · Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma
• · History of multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome
• · History of pancreatitis
• · End stage renal disease (on dialysis)
• · BMI <25
• · Type 2 Diabetic patients who are on insulin or a sulfonylurea
• · Patients with diabetic retinopathy
• · Patients that are on several hypertensive medications

WHO IS A CANDIDATE?

Essentially everyone else. A licensed health care provider will review health history, medications, and weight information to determine each candidate’s eligibility.
